Shopify opens more checkout to agents
Shopify storefronts let browser agents check out after approval
Shopify said every Liquid and Hydrogen storefront and checkout now has WebMCP tools. Browser agents get structured data, and they can search products, update the cart, and complete checkout once the buyer approves, with the same validation as the checkout page. Shopify said every Shopify store is agent-ready by default.
shop.md lets any agent shop and pay with Shop Pay
Shopify said shop.md is a skill any AI agent can use. A buyer points ChatGPT, Claude, or another agent at shop.md, and it can search more than a billion products, check out with Shop Pay, and track orders. Anyone can customize the skill. Shopify said the agent can use the buyer's preferences, sizes, and order history from Shop to find products from Shopify merchants.
Shop.dev is one connection to Catalog, cart, checkout, and Shop Pay
Shopify said Shop.dev gives any agent or app one connection to Shopify Catalog, sign-in with Shop, cart, checkout, and Shop Pay. It is the same connection behind shop.md, where a shopper's agent can search more than a billion products, get recommendations from preferences and recent purchases, and check out with Shop Pay. A developer can build on the same catalog and checkout behind ChatGPT, Copilot, Muse from Meta, and Instinct, and no key is required.
Shop Pay checkout is inside Muse, Claude Duet, and Instinct
Shopify said Shop Pay is inside Muse from Meta, Claude Duet, and Instinct. Claude Duet, Grok Bot, and Instinct also offer it for brands not on Shopify. The card is never shared with the agent. The buyer approves (https://www.shopify.com/editions/fall2026). Off Shopify, Shop Pay uses tokens from Mastercard, Visa, and Discover. American Express tokens are coming soon, not generally available yet. PYMNTS on October 29, 2026 quoted Rohit Mishra, VP of product, on Shop Pay for any merchant (https://www.pymnts.com/news/payment-methods/2026/shopify-embraces-visa-and-mastercard-agentic-payment-tech/).
Shopify opens one checkout for products from different brands
Shopify said partners can now offer one checkout for products from different brands, using Shopify Catalog for discovery and Shop Pay for payment. It handles each merchant's own business logic, and every merchant still benefits from Shopify's checkout, rules, and orders. In the Shop app, shoppers can buy from several merchants in one session, and checkout still respects every merchant's extensions and validations (https://www.shopify.com/news/fall-26-edition-merchant).
Shopify cart links can use the UCP /buy route
Shopify said storefronts now support a Universal Commerce Protocol permalink on a /buy route, from UCP version 2026-08-25. One link can add items, prefill checkout details such as email, country, and language, apply a discount code, indicate a preference for Shop Pay, and take the buyer to checkout. The same format works on any shop that supports UCP. Older /cart links still work. /buy does not yet support selling plans, line item properties, cart notes, or cart attributes.

Shopify Catalog can search brands outside Shopify
Shopify said the Catalog API beta can now return products from brands that do not sell on Shopify in the same search as Shopify merchants. Those products cannot be bought through Shopify checkout. Each one includes a description, an image, a price, and a link to the brand's own product page. During the beta they are returned only for shoppers in the United States.

Natural Direct lets agents choose ACH, wire, or realtime payments
Natural said Direct is generally available. An AI agent can choose ACH, a wire, or a realtime payment over RTP or FedNow for each payment from a Natural wallet. Limits the business already set still apply. It is available to Natural customers with a funded wallet. Mailed paper checks and international wires are coming soon.
Whop joins PayBox so agents can shop its storefronts
CryptoBriefing reported that Whop joined PayBox Markets, MoonPay's commerce aggregation network, and that the integration is live. An agent on PayBox can search Whop storefronts, see the current price, and prepare an order for a product, subscription, or service. Before payment, the buyer sees the item, the total, the payment method, and the recipient, and controls whether it is approved. Whop merchants do not change their storefronts. PayBox says a person can require approval on every transaction or let the agent act within limits they set (https://x.com/PayBox/status/2115820823327936940).

Mastercard calls a virtual card in an agent purchase a bridge
On its October 29, 2026 third-quarter call, CEO Michael Miebach said Mastercard is not supporting a one-time virtual card number used to front an agent purchase, because that "fundamentally breaks a transaction." He called it "a processor decision that is a bridge" to a fully tokenized transaction for a period of time, and said that is not a long-term solution Mastercard will support. He said a shopper's choice to pay with Mastercard in an agent is separate. He also said Shop Pay uses Agent Pay and Mastercard network tokens.

Amazon Shop Direct lists about 250 million outside products

Shop Direct shows products sold on other sites and sends the shopper there when Amazon does not sell the item. The article does not describe Shop Direct as a checkout for outside agents.
