Announced means a public plan that is not yet live. American Express published a framework for recording what a shopper authorized before an agent buys, for fraud checks, payment approval, and disputes.

American Express introduced Intent Intelligence in April 2026; this row is the later public framework, not a checkout that is already switched on. On October 28, 2026 Shopify said American Express tokens for Shop Pay agent purchases from merchants off Shopify are coming soon and are not generally available yet (https://www.shopify.com/news/fall-26-edition-merchant).
