Live means a shopper can use it today, sometimes in one country or at selected stores. Mastercard's program for letting a registered AI agent pay with a tokenized card, with the cardholder setting what the agent may buy. The October 29, 2026 earnings call disclosed a broad OpenAI agreement that includes Agent Pay. The Paypers and PYMNTS do not describe a new shopper checkout.

On October 8, 2026 Crossmint said its toolkit uses Mastercard Agent Pay tokenized credentials where a card supports them. On October 20, 2026 Mastercard opened Early Access to Agent Pay for Machines, built on x402, after end-to-end pilots with Cloudflare, Ant International, AIsa, Base, BVNK, Coinbase, and Hype. An agent pays for digital services with a signed payment voucher inside an approved budget. On October 28, 2026 Shopify said Shop Pay uses Mastercard tokens for some off-Shopify agent purchases (https://www.shopify.com/news/fall-26-edition-merchant).
