Can AI agents buy at Coinbase x402?
LiveProtocol
Live means a shopper can use it today, sometimes in one country or at selected stores. An open way for an agent to pay for a web page or API, often in USDC, after the server replies that payment is required.
Note on this rowJune 15, 2026 is the date Coinbase and AWS said publishers on CloudFront could turn x402 on. Coinbase says it incubated the protocol earlier and later moved it under the Linux Foundation. This row does not state an earlier launch date. On October 20, 2026 Mastercard said Agent Pay for Machines builds on x402. In that early-access product, a service can answer with HTTP 402 and the agent signs a payment voucher inside an approved budget. Mastercard named pilots with Cloudflare, Ant International, AIsa, Base, BVNK, Coinbase, and Hype. Coinbase for Agents is a separate product. Its August 21, 2026 changelog entry says agents can trade S&P 500 U.S. stocks, which is not an x402 purchase (https://docs.cdp.coinbase.com/get-started/changelog).
